My first memory of RON

Postby webmaster » Sun Jun 06, 2010 5:22 am

Ron was the first contact I had from ZONC. I was on the internet looking for a club to join for my new Z and I ran into ZONC.org. The group sounded fun, but at the time ZONC website did not give alot of info.

So I called the first phone number I could find on the site, PRESIDENT RON FULLER! I said to my self "go for the top, can't go wrong" No answer, so I left a message.

Not 10 minutes go by and Ron calls me back, we were on the phone for 45 minutes explaining ZONC and all the things they do. Ron told me to come to a event that ZONC was putting on, and meet all the folks and see all the cars.

So I did! Met up with Ron, he introducd to I think EVERYBODY!

I took a like'n to Ron & the ZONC family so much, that in early 2006 I sat down with the board to become what I am today. The ZONC Webmaster & Forum Admin.

~ RON will be missed, "Z"EST in PEACE!

If only but a year ago, I walked into Dublin Nissan to a ZONC gathering. Alone and a bit nervous, a stranger walked up to me and said, "Greetings, you're new here aren't you?. I am Ron and welcome to ZONC." I found this poem and am so posting it for my friend Ron. He made a difference for me coming in from the cold world of reality.

SEE-YA, I'M ON ANOTHER RUN:
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other as friends, that we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the way which you always used.

Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me on my next run
May my tank be full and windshield clear as my friends are very near

Let my name be ever the common word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.

It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, very near,
Just around the corner in my Z.

All is well :D

It was only about 6 years ago that I met him for the first time, he was president of the club at the time and I was just some 23 year old probably just another punk kid with a Z showing up at my first meet. To show how good of a guy he was it wasn't even a club meet, it was a random BBQ in Fremont put on by 300zxclub.com's bay area Z association which consisted of a bunch of younger owners like myself. I chatted with him for a good 30 mins or so and he had me hooked on zonc, most clubs don't reach outside there club to connect with new younger owners in my experience as short as its been other then to recruit but he didn't push me into it at all we talked cars and life then he mentioned his position in the club. I got to know him over the years, he always dropped in on events I helped put together and gave me on ideas and I gave him some also that he used. I am sure I am not the only one he reached out to, I know my dad appreciated his involvement in the club during those years also since he went from muscle car dad to Z dad to spend time with me and he is still involved to this day with ZONC even though I live in Richmond, VA now. He will be missed and wont be forgotten, I probably wouldn't be driving a Z if I hadn't spoke with him and joined zonc, he was exactly the kind of person that keeps Z clubs going strong and will be missed. I attached a few photo's I took over the years of him and his car. It was a pleasure driving with you Ron.

Noticed my photos didn't load up right so here is one that should work that I think he would have enjoyed of him and his Z on the last run I did with him. I seem to have a image size issue on the forum so the link is below, sorry.

While Ron wasn't my first contact with ZONC, (Doc holds that honor), Ron certainly was one I had constant contact with after becoming a member. He was at most events, personable, friendly and always willing to help. I can't even count how many events we participated in together and when my son got his first car, a 86 300ZX slick top, Ron welcomed him too at a smaller event at the NOW wreckers in Rancho Cordova. Living in the Central Valley myself, every month we met at Stockton Nissan for our area meetings, talked cars and current club events. Ron was always talking about someone else he met or walked up to that owned a Z he saw and asked them to stop buy a meeting. Several times they did and became new members.

There is no question Ron had a love for cars, especially the Z car, having owned up to 10 Z's at one time. Not all were in running condition but there was never any doubt Ron loved this iconic automobile.

He will be missed and hope the new owners of his Z's treat them as well as he did.
